When I see Osteonecrosis cases, I’ve always wondered if IV Biphosphonates could have helped. Apparently so, for this 27 year old. They used Pamidronate 45 mg daily for 3 days monthly. Only did 2 cycles and got good results.

Pamidronate Treatment of Osteonecrosis of the Hip in Young Male.
Lo Gullo A et al
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/30197706
- 27 year old with prior oral steroid use
- pain and dysmobility for 4 months
- pamidronate 45 mg for three consecutive days every four weeks – two cycles (planned more but had thrombotic problems)
- at 3 months near full recovery
Comment – they make a point in saying it has to be early osteonecrosis but it wasn’t that early if he had pain for 4 months. Worth a try.
