Omega 3 Helps Aromatase Inhibitor Breast Cancer treatment Pains in Obese Subjects

Aromatase Inhibitors used in post menopausal cases of estrogen receptor positive breast cancers are notorious for causing arthalgias. There are apparently 3 inhibitors:
Arimidex (chemical name: anastrozole)
Aromasin (chemical name: exemestane)
Femara (chemical name: letrozole)

About 1/4 of patients stop the drug within 2 years due to those complaints.  3.4 g/day omega 3 in patients with BMI >30 helped the pain (but not in thinner subjects).

Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS) -What’s New

PBS is fraught with problems related to “heterogeneity” – some a neurologically based and some are inflammatory based for example. Finding any measure to work is a difficulty in dealing with “subtypes’. What we do know at this stage is the those with Hunner’s ulcer lesions in bladder(blood in urine would suggest it), would benefit from fulguration. A new innovation is an anti – tumor necrosis factor agent called Certolizumab. Though results with Crohn’s were seen in  2 week, it took 18 weeks for PBS to respond – so initial disappointment but not really since results were eventually seen.

Shingles Without Rash – Long Term Pain Especially Neck-Arm Radiculopathy

Recently discovered that there is a whole subset of neck sciatica/cervical radiculopathy that does not have MRI evidence of disc protrusion but give a much increased history of remote shingles episode. It is suggested this is herpes zoster without rash – ie. Zoster sine Herpete. This condition was recently compared to shingles with rash and found to have pains that are worse and last longer.
